On April 9, 2024, the Environmental Club at Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) hosted an event in which students and staff could bring in their gently used clothes and jewelry, in addition to bringing home other people’s gently used clothing and jewelry at no cost.

When I asked Environmental Club Co-President Isabelle Scricco about why they decided to organize this event, she told me, “This event was about fast fashion, and how it negatively affects the environment. We also wanted to bring people together to combat that through thrifting and sharing clothes because that helps avoid things ending up in landfills.”

RVCC students Bryan Auccapina-Aliaga and Ludwing Estrada pose in front of the clothes during the event.

The event was held on the first floor of the Bateman Center in front of the Student Life Suite between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.

When asked what he thought of the event, attendee Stephen Evarts said, “I think it went really, really well. I’m honestly thrilled that we had such a good engagement.”

Unclaimed clothing and jewelry donations were donated to RVCC’s resource center.
