Two Wuv Animation

Animations & abstract by: Kim Johnson

This piece is my first animation, or perhaps more accurately, my first animatic, and it was made for a narrative project in my Digital Artmaking class. Over the past few years, I’ve been in love with soundtracks from musicals like Dear Evan Hansen, 21 Chump Street, and Be More Chill. I loved seeing animatics people had made for the songs, as I had never seen any of the musicals live. Seeing the way in which they interpreted each action and emotion in each scene was inspiring.

Since I enjoyed theatrical music, I chose to focus on a song that I felt had that same energy… “Two Wuv” by Tally Hall, a song about a man who falls in love with both Mary-Kate and Ashley and becomes obsessed with them. I animated half of this song, and although some parts didn’t turn out quite as I wanted, and there wasn’t as many variations of scenes as I was aiming for, I’m still proud of this project. After all, it was my first attempt at any sort of animation, even if I did use rotoscoping (tracing videos of myself to animate the character).

Credit to Tally Hall for the music.
