Moving on…

While I hate to say it, this will be my last semester at RVCC and as we start to head into the final half of the semester, I wanted to leave some lasting advice to those who wish to transfer in the future or might even just be joining RV. This school has been a huge part of my development as a person and looking back, I am so glad I decided to start my first college years at a community college rather than a four year.

I would love to be sentimental about my time at RV, but I am writing this submission in hopes it will help some people feel more secure about transferring and continuing their education here. Below are some tips on what to do to further yourself and make the most out of your time at RV.

  • Get involved in Student Life
    • Take up an officer position, join a club, go to SGA monthly meetings.
  • Talk to your professors
    • Our staff are hard-working, dedicated professionals in their fields. There is an added bonus of smaller class sizes at RV, where you can interact with people with lots of experience who want to help you succeed in whatever career path you see for yourself. Get to know and talk to your professors.
  • Call out problems you see on campus
    • Whether it be by talking to an SGA member or through RVConnect, I have seen so many people raise concerns about things they want changed on campus such as vending machines, cafeteria food, a more aesthetically pleasing campus, and more gender neutral bathrooms. While some requests may not change overnight, there are major improvements from when I first came to RV in the Fall of 2021 and I am excited to see how things change for future generations. This is your school too, so make sure your voice is heard!
  • Enjoy college
    • College is not all about class-  take the chance to learn about the events the school has to offer and learn more about your peers. It has been such a shame that many of the people I have met through classes will just go home after they are over, but have no chances to enjoy events or take part in one of the 35+ clubs we have to offer here. Enjoy every moment!
  • Go to Transfer Events
    • Transferring may be scary, but most transfer advisors from four years are so friendly and easy to talk to. They are also most likely the people who will review your college essays and applications, so putting a face to a piece of paper is important. ***
    • *** If you go to these events, most of the time colleges will give you a application fee waiver which can save you hundreds if you are applying to multiple schools!
